Life at the Farm

At our estancia in Corrientes you can ride across the fields and enjoy the vast plains. From the saddle you will see alligators, capybaras (the world’s largest rodents) and a large number of birds, while we explore the green surroundings. The exploration of nature is alternated with farm activities. You work alongside our gauchos, while they are herding the cattle. As such, you will soon feel a gaucho yourself, throwing a lasso and driving the cows. Obviously, we will take care that you will become familiar with the delicious local cooking too.

Detailed Program

DAY 1 - ARRIVAL AT THE ESTANCIA

On the first day, we will welcome you at our estancia and you will have some time to get familiar with the surroundings and the horses. You can choose a type of saddle and after lunch we will go for a short one hour ride along the palm tree path in order to get used to the riding requirements of the area and the chosen tack.

DAY 2 - THE "OLD ESTANCIA”

Today we ride 22 kilometres, heading for a wonderful 150 year old estancia. We ride through a forest and along a trail that is bordered with beautiful old eucalyptus trees. On the way, we see cattle and buffaloes and their bathing facilities. We also visit an open pig farm near the old estancia. Afterwards, we enjoy lunch at an immense lagoon, where many bird species can be observed. After a short siesta, we head back to our estancia passing various lagoons in a long gallop. Here tea and dinner are waiting for us.

DAY 3 - RIDE WITH THE GAUCHOS

Early in the morning we will ride out to a forest of native trees to gather a group of cows and drive them back to the estancia yard. After the lunch at the estancia, we see a demonstration of the use of the lasso and you can try to use it. In the afternoon you join the gauchos with the labour in the estancia yard (e.g. vaccination, sanitary bathing and branding cattle). At the end of the day, the cows are being taken to their place.

DAY 4 - THROUGH THE MARSHLAND

After breakfast, we will ride towards the marshlands, where lunch (generally a roasted lamb, a steak or a farm stew) will be served. We board a canoe to admire the authentic flora and fauna of the region. We try not to use an engine, so you can appreciate the remarkable entourage and sounds of this unique place. You can come across alligators, capybaras, various birds (there are 200 species including herons, ducks, caracaras, crested screamers and moorhens) and enjoy the local fauna such as lilies, rushes, esparto grass. The return to the estancia goes along the cattle track that passes through the lagoons. The day’s ride is approximately 20 kilometres.

DAY 5 - RIDE WITH THE GAUCHOS

This day is filled with labour at the farm, where you will assist the gauchos with their work.

DAY 6 - THE CORRIENTES RIVER

After breakfast we prepare for today’s 22 kilometres ride towards the river Corrientes, after which the province was named. On our way, we pass a forest, an old cemetery that dates back to 1850 and a rural school. On arrival at the shores of the river, you can either go fishing or take a stroll along the beaches and slopes, where birds can be spotted and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and vegetation. After lunch, which generally includes either roasted lamb on the spit or farm stew, you can have a siesta or try your luck fishing. The way back brings us through forests and rice fields, where buffaloes graze.

DAY 7 - RIDE WITH THE GAUCHOS

This is another day where you can work alongside the gauchos at the farm.

DAY 8 - A NEARBY ESTANCIA

Today we ride 26 kilometres to visit a neighbouring estancia. We gallop along the provincial route, where we see our gauchos at work. At the nearby estancia we explore their grounds and forests. On our return to our estancia, we will ride through dense forests and along lagoons to reach one of our estancia’s outer buildings. Here we will have a cup of tea before galloping back the last 3 kilometres to the main house.

DAY 9 - AT YOUR CHOICE

You can choose what you want to do this day.

DAY 10 - A VISIT TO THE TOWN AND FAREWELL

We will ride 38 kilometres to get to the nearby town. We will have lunch on the way and upon arrival we will take a “city tour” of this 200 years old town. After tea, you can indulge in a well-deserved massage from a kinesiologist, before saying farewell after dinner in a typical local restaurant.
