The Patagonian Estancias Tour

This luxury tour passes by the best estancias that Argentina has to offer. You visit exclusive estancias, of which various are located in highly remote places. At every estancia you are able to ride in a different environment, ranging from coastal areas, high mountains and green plains to lakes and glaciers.

Detailed Program

DAY 1 - BUENOS AIRES

You are welcomed at the airport of Buenos Aires by our guide, who accompanies you to your hotel in Buenos Aires. Today, you may visit the highlights of Buenos Aires, such as the street tango in colourful La Boca, the presidential palace or Casa Rosada (“Pink House”), the cemetery of Recoleta and the old neighbourhood of San Telmo. An organized city tour and a tango show in the evening also belong to the possibilities.

DAY 2 - THE PAMPAS

You start your travel with an exciting day at an estancia near Buenos Aires. Here you will be able to ride an Arabian horse through the green pampas. You feel how well these animals are trained, while galloping through the fields.

DAY 3 - WHALE WATCHING

Today you fly to Trelew, from where you board a car that brings you to Peninsula Valdés. This peninsula offers an astonishing diversity of fauna. Depending on the season, you find whales, penguins, sea elephants, sea lions and occasionally an orca in the water and on the beaches. On shore, you will see vicuñas (a type of lama) and armadillos and often also foxes and rheas. The first day will give you some time to explore the island by car.

DAY 4 – RIDING ON PENINSULA VALDÉS

Now it is time for your first ride. From the estancia, you can make various riding trips along the coast and gallop across the estancia’s land. The windy climate will make sure that you have a true Patagonian riding experience.

DAY 5 – MILLIONS OF PENGUINS

You drive through the barren lands of Patagonia to come to the next destination: a remote estancia, located in a nature reserve along the Atlantic coast. On the way there, you visit the penguin colony at Punta Tombo, where more than a million penguins are nesting from September to March.

DAY 6 – RIDING ON THE BEACH

It might have been difficult to get here, but now you are in a beautiful Patagonian coastal area, where you can enjoy riding on the beach. The horses are used to the sandy beaches surrounded by red rock formations. Just like on Peninsula Valdés, the estancia is in the middle of a nature reserve and you will see many birds on your ride. To relax, you can take a bath in one of the natural bowls in the rocks.

DAY 7 – OUT ON SEA

As the estancia lies on the coast, in the morning you have time to take a boat tour to sea the fauna of the reserve, including penguins, various species of cormorants, ducks, oystercatchers and egrets. In the afternoon you can ride along the shores or gallop over the Patagonian steppe.

DAY 8 – TOWARDS THE FAR SOUTH

Today, in a long day of travel, you fly to El Calafate, in Southern Patagonia, from where you are brought to an exclusive estancia a bit outside of town. You can relax the rest of the day, or, alternatively, gallop a bit through the estancia’s grounds.

DAY 9 – SPECTACULAR GLACIER

In a day tour you see the Perito Moreno glacier and can even go for a minitrekking on top of it. The Perito Moreno glacier is often described as the most spectacular glacier in the world. You understand why, when you see and hear the ice breaking off and falling down into the water of lake Argentina.

DAY 10 – RIDING ALONG LAKES AND GLACIERS

You will be brought to another estancia, which is located in the National Park. Here you can ride around on horseback along the shores of lakes with floating icebergs and glaciers coming down the mountains. There are wonderful views from the saddle.

DAY 11 – RIDING ALONG LAKES AND GLACIERS

You have one more day to enjoy the amazing surroundings of the estancia. There are various tracks, and you can choose one. Alternatively, you can also join a boat tour that brings you to the glaciers.

DAY 12 – BACK TO BUENOS AIRES

After spending more than a week in Patagonia, you return to the capital of Argentina. In the evening you can try one of Buenos Aires’ fine restaurants.

DAY 13 – A POLO LESSON

Now that you have seen so much of Argentina, you should also get to know one of its favourite sports: polo. This is the country with the best polo players, and a good place to practice this sport yourself. You spend several hours with a professional, who teaches you the basics of the game. Riding the polo ponies that obey your every move, is an exciting experience.

DAY 14 – FAREWELL

After two weeks of luxury in some of the most beautiful places in Patagonia, it is time to go back home with some amazing memories of all the rides that you have done.
