Argentina’s Highlights

This tour takes you to the tourist highlights of Argentina and allows you to ride on horseback in some of the most beautiful places of the continent. Intensive days of horseback riding are being accompanied by days of relaxation and sight seeing.

If you have more or less time available than the program outline, it is possible to extend or reduce this tour by several days.

Detailed Programme

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN BUENOS AIRES

A transfer is waiting for you at the international airport in Buenos Aires to bring you to your hotel. You can spend the rest of the afternoon at your leisure in Buenos Aires. At night, you visit one of the city’s famous tango shows.

DAY 2 – TRAINING ARABIAN HORSES

In order to get some Argentine riding experience, you leave for an estancia near Buenos Aires, where you spend several hours training Arabian horses. Galloping on such a thoroughbred is a unique experience. The remainder of the day can be spent at leisure in lively Buenos Aires.

DAY 3 – PATAGONIA

You will be picked up at your hotel and brought to the airport. From Buenos Aires you fly down to El Calafate in Southern Patagonia, where you will be brought to your hotel. In the evening you can taste some of Patagonia’s delicious specialties in one of the local restaurants.

DAY 4 – THE WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS GLACIER

Today you go on an excursion to admire the world’s most famous glacier: the Perito Moreno. You see and hear immense blocks of ice falling off the glacier into the lake below. A short mini-trekking over the glacier makes this exhilarating day complete.

DAY 5 – THE SOUTHERN ESTANCIA

You will be transferred to a luxury estancia in a remote part of the national park. Here you can enjoy a day of horseback riding in a spectacular surrounding, visiting lakes and glaciers on the estancia’s ground.

DAY 6 – ANOTHER DAY AT THE ESTANCIA

You have another day to ride on the estancia and wonder at the spectacular nature. If you prefer to hike or make a boat tour, this is possible as well.

DAY 7 – BACK TO BUENOS AIRES

After breakfast, you fly from El Calafate to Buenos Aires, where you spend the night.

DAY 8 - HEADING NORTH

Today you fly and drive towards the north. Here, you can choose between two options. The first one takes you on a three day excursion through the world’s second largest wetlands, the “Esteros del Iberá”. The second option let’s you experience the true gaucho life by yourself on one of Corrientes’ major estancias.

ALTERNATIVE A: RIDING THROUGH THE WETLANDS

DAY 9 – INTO THE WETLANDS

You meet the horses in the morning as they are being prepared for the journey. After a three hours ride through the wetlands, you arrive at a typical ranch. On the way there, you already find many different birds. During lunchtime you can enjoy the famous Argentine BBQ, which is prepared by the gauchos that live here. After lunch you can stretch your legs during a short trekking and in the afternoon you ride for another two hours to get to an estancia, where they are waiting for you with a glass of wine.

DAY 10 – GETTING TO KNOW THE ESTANCIA

You ride through the estancia ground and participate in herding the cattle. You learn driving the cows through the wetlands, an important skill for the gauchos here. At lunch you can taste roasted lamb, an Argentinean specialty! In the afternoon you ride several hours through the wetlands and you can spot deer, carpinchos and various birds on the route. The campsite will be put up below the palms near the river to experience a night filled with the sounds of the wetland.

DAY 11 – ALONG THE PALM TREES

You ride long the palm trees bordering the wetlands, where it is possible to observe swamp deer as well as alligators, carpinchos and hundreds of birds. After lunch you pass over the green fields to get to the pick-up point, from where you are taken back to town by car.

ALTERNATIVE B: THE GAUCHO EXPERIENCE

DAY 9 – RIDE WITH THE GAUCHOS

Early in the morning you ride out to a forest of native trees to gather a group of cows and drive them back to the estancia yard. After lunch at the estancia, you see a demonstration of the use of the lasso and you can try to use it yourself. In the afternoon you join the gauchos with the labour in the estancia yard (e.g. vaccination, sanitary bathing and branding cattle). At the end of the day, the cows are being taken to their place.

DAY 10 – RIDING AT THE ESTANCIA

There are many beautiful rides that you can make from the estancia the next two days. You can choose which excursion you like to make. There are for example rides to the river side, where you can relax; to the nearby marshlands, where you can board a canoe to admire the local flora and fauna; and to a nearby neighbouring estancia.

DAY 11 – RIDING AT THE ESTANCIA

You can choose to go on another ride or, alternatively, spend the day with the gauchos, assisting them with their labour.

DAY 12 – A LUXURIOUS STAY

You travel by car to Posadas, where you stay at a luxurious hotel. If you like, you can ride a bit on the estancia’s grounds and along the river in the afternoon. Otherwise, just enjoy this unique place and indulge in its luxury.

DAY 13 – AT YOUR LEISURE

You can choose one of the excursions offered by the hotel, including a boat tour into the “Esteros del Iberá” or a horseback riding trip on its premises.

DAY 14 – THE OLD JESUIT COLONIES

Today you are brought to Puerto Iguazú by car. On the way you pass by the remains of the old Jesuit colonies in San Ignacio Mini and the mining operations in Wanda.

DAY 15 – THE IGUAZU FALLS – ARGENTINE SIDE

You spend a full day gazing at the Iguazu Falls from the Argentine side. You can feel the water falling down the “Devil’s Throat” while you stand at only a few metres from this spectacle.

DAY 16 – THE IGUAZU FALLS – BRAZILIAN SIDE

Another morning at the falls, but now on the Brazilian side. You have amazing panoramas from the falls from the various viewpoints along the road. You are sure to be impressed by this wonder of nature! Afterwards, you return back to Buenos Aires by flight.

DAY 17 – A DAY OF POLO

Another true Argentinean experience is playing polo. Hence any highlight tour has to include this in the program. During several hours you learn the basics of this exciting game and try your luck with the mallet at an estancia near Buenos Aires.
