What kind of horses is being used on Riding Argentina’s tours?

As special activities need special horses, we use different types of horses for our excursions. Polo is obviously being played with polo ponies and some trips include riding Arabian horses. However, most of the horses are criollo horses. For excursions in the Andes we use horses, which are specially bred and trained for riding in the mountains.

Is there a minimum age for Riding Argentina’s excursions?
Most of our estancia programs can be tailored to your needs and include programs for young children. Excursions that take several days are not suitable for young children. The minimum age for such excursions is generally 15. Children below 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Adolescents below 21 years, travelling alone, need a certified declaration from their parents or guardian.

What kind of equipment should I bring?
For each ride, we will supply you with a list of personal equipment, including the type of clothing that you should bring along. Clearly, this depends on the region of your ride. In case you prefer to rent equipment locally, please let us know and we will try to organize this for you.

Can I bring my own saddle?
Please consult us before bringing your own saddle. For some of our riding tours this is possible and for others not. If you prefer to bring your own saddle, we will check the saddle type with the horse owners and let you know accordingly.

Will the excursion also take place in case of bad weather?
Safety of both riders and horses is important for us. Therefore, it could happen that we have to change the itinerary, postpone or cancel excursions because of the weather or other safety reasons. In such case, we will try to offer you an alternative excursion, where possible.

Do I need to be in good physical shape?
If you spend a day on the estancia, we tailor the trip to your needs. However, if you want to go on an excursion for several days, we ride several hours a day and your health needs to allow for this. As some excursions go through hard to reach areas and it is very difficult to change the program once we are on the tour, we reserve the right to refuse passengers who are not in a physical shape that is thought adequate for the said excursions. Some of our excursions involve riding at high altitudes, which are not suitable for people with altitude sickness.

What level of experience do I need for Riding Argentina’s programs?
Some of our tours require an advanced level of horseback riding experience. Others, however, can already be done with no or little experience. We have tried to indicate the required level of experience in the tour descriptions, but please don’t hesitate to contact us in case of further questions.

Do your guides speak English?
All of our tours are accompanied by English speaking guides, who are familiar with the region and the horses.

If my partner doesn’t want to ride, can he still join the tour?
This depends on the type of tour chosen. On an estancia there are always non-riding activities that can be enjoyed. Horseback riding tours through the Andes generally do not allow for partners to follow the trip. For such excursions, we have special partner programs that offer other accommodations and activities (such as golf, wine tasting, 4 wheel drive tours and rafting).

Do I need any vaccinations for Argentina?
There are no required vaccinations for Argentina. However, we advise you to contact your local specialist for more information.

What type of accommodation can I expect?
This varies significantly, from a luxury estancia to a campsite in the mountains. The tour descriptions state the accommodation for that specific excursion. Please let us know if you need more information for a specific tour.

How long would we normally ride per day?
On our excursions, we are generally between 5 and 8 hours a day in the saddle, with several breaks in between. On stays at an estancia, you can choose yourself how long you want to ride.

What is the best time to travel?
Argentina is a large country with different climatic zones. Therefore, it depends very much on the area, where you want to go horseback riding. For tours in Patagonia and at high altitudes, we recommend the summer months between December and March.

Are all your horseback riding tours guaranteed to go?
Some of our excursions require a minimum level of participants. If the minimum level of participants is not reached, the tour will not go. We will indicate at the time of booking whether or not the tour is guaranteed to go. If a tour is not yet guaranteed to go, we will inform you as soon as possible of any change to its status.

When do I need to pay for my trip?
At time of booking, we require a 30% deposit to confirm the reservation. Some tours might require a higher level, which would be communicated to you at the time of booking. The remainder of the amount needs to be transferred 45 days prior to the start of your tour.

How can I pay for the tour?
You can either transfer the money to the bank account of Riding Argentina or pay us by money order.

Can you prepare special meals according to my diet?
If you follow a special diet, this is generally not a problem. Please let us know at the time of booking and we will try to organize special meals for you.

Does my mobile phone work everywhere?
Many of our excursions go through remote areas, where your mobile phone may not work. Where necessary, your guide will have a satellite telephone that can be used in case of emergency.
